Conquer the wind
I wrote Conquer the Wind as I approached my thirties a symbolic milestone that called me to turn a decisive page. My twenties were not merely years of growth; they were years of survival, rebuilding, and rediscovering the voice of the little girl who once fled war-torn Congo in the early 2000s.
Separated from my biological parents, raised for most of my childhood in foster care, I had to learn early on how to exist without family ties. I grew up in complete estrangement, learning to become an adult long before my time learning resilience, responsibility, and the courage to stand by my own choices.
At nineteen, when child welfare services refused to renew my support contract, I suddenly found myself without shelter, thrust into the unforgiving reality of life on the streets. That moment could have been the end of my story. Instead, it became the beginning of another a story of endurance, of battles fought in silence, and of a will strong enough to defy the winds themselves.
Conquer the Wind is not only the story of hardship it is the story of hope, of rebuilding, and of claiming the right to dream, no matter how fierce the storm.
