Second Runner-Up of Miss Universe Republic of Congo 2026 — A Historic First

What began almost by chance became a historic journey. Dagraça Mobengo arrived at the Miss Universe Republic of Congo 2026 casting without the right outfit, without high heels, and with no real preparation. She borrowed a pair of shoes from another candidate and decided to take the leap.

Selected from several hundred applications, she made it into the Top 12 and completed two weeks of intensive training before reaching the Top 5, then the Top 3. She ultimately became Second Runner-Up of Miss Universe Republic of Congo 2026, making history as part of the Republic of Congo’s first-ever participation in the Miss Universe competition.

Her journey was remarkable for another reason: she was the shortest, curviest and oldest of the candidates. Yet she chose to step forward, challenge expectations and take her place.

Her decision to enter the competition was deeply personal. She wanted to show her five-year-old niece, who had developed a complex about her natural Afro hair, that a woman can embrace who she is, stand apart from conventional standards, and still take her place.

What began as a personal gesture for one little girl became a historic moment and a broader message: beauty can take many forms, and there is no single way to represent a woman, a country, or an identity.
